Mysterious Dark Energy Has Existed For Most of Time, Scientists Say
Peeling back both space and time, scientists using the Hubble Space Telescope have found that the strange force known as dark energy appears to have existed for at least the past two-thirds of the universe's history.
Dark energy is a mysterious repulsive force that opposes gravity, causing the universe to expand. Albert Einstein posited that a form of the force existed nearly a century ago by, but it was not discovered until 1998.
Scientists believe dark energy makes up about 70 percent of the substance of the universe...more

Sony suffers PlayStation3 setback
Sony suffered another burst of embarrassing publicity for its long-awaited PlayStation3, just days before it is launched in the vital US market.
The Japanese giant was forced to admit that, despite earlier promises to the contrary, a large number of games designed for the PlayStation and PlayStation2 will not be properly compatible with the new console.
News of the glitches come as Sony is about to go head to head with Nintendo for the affections of a new generation of gamers. Its countrymate and rival is launching the Nintendo Wii in the US on Sunday, two days after the PS3 goes on sale. The Wii has won plaudits for its touch-sensitive joystick and is being pitched at new, older potential gamers.
The PS3 was initially promised a worldwide release for spring this year but was postponed at the last minute to November, while the console will not be available at all in Europe for another four months, completely missing the Christmas sales period.
In the US, there have also been grumbles over the price. A PS3 with a 20GB hard drive will cost $499 (£260), while gamers who want a larger, 60GB hard drive will pay $599. This is the most expensive console ever - some $200 more than the launch cost of the PS2 six years ago, and $100 more than the Microsoft Xbox 360, which has already been on sale for a year....more

WebsiteMotorola Buys Wireless Email Firm
Motorola Inc. agreed to acquire closely held Good Technology Inc., which provides wireless email technology that competes with Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry system.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
Good Technology, based in Santa Clara, Calif., makes software that allows corporate users to send and receive email and other data on cellphones and various devices, including Motorola's Q and Palm Inc.'s Treo smartphones.
The deal underscores efforts by the world's second-largest handset manufacturer to sell more business-oriented mobile devices. In September, the Schaumburg, Ill., company agreed to the $3.9 billion purchase of Symbol Technologies Inc., a maker of portable bar code scanners and customized handheld computers.
"The Q has been somewhat disappointing and they're looking for ways to reinvigorate that product line,'' said Albert Lin, an analyst for American Technology Research. "The next versions will be much more feature-rich.''
Motorola said Good Technology will join its mobile devices unit, which has flourished in the past couple of years thanks to the runaway success of Razr phones. The transaction is expected to close in early 2007.
Good Technology, founded in 2000, originally offered its own handheld device but now focuses on software and services. Its GoodLink software provides handheld devices with wireless access to Microsoft's Outlook application.
The deal is similar to Nokia Corp.'s acquisition of Intellisync in February. Intellisync, like Good Technology, makes software which integrates applications such as email between the mobile device and the office computer. .. more

Pronto Condoms
Let's face it, using an ordinary condom is a real pain in the butt. First, you have to tear the pack open, often using your teeth. Then you have to take the condom out of the pack - this is a slippery business at the best of times. Next, you have to figure out which is the right side up, before you can unroll it. By the time the condom's on, the mood is halfway out the window...
